Todmorden Orchestra Heritage Performance

With locally born soloist Martyn Jackson, and a world premiere of a piece composed by local Tim Benjamin specially for the Town Hall 150th Anniversary, this performance by our wonderful orchestra was first class. A wonderful way to start the celebrations from an institution whose connections with the Town Hall date back to its opening.

Exhibition: from 23rd March

We’re really proud of the unusual and fascinating artefacts and photos we had on display during the fortnight, and thanks to the knowledgeable volunteers, everyone went away having discovered something new about our Town Hall. People also had fun spotting family members and friends in photos and in the scrapbook from the 1960s.

Sunday 23rd March 4pm-6.30pm

Kids discos used to be regular and popular events at the Town Hall. We revived the spirit but it wasn’t only the children who got to have the fun!  This was a multi-generational zinger, an absolute hoot, and everyone left wondering when the next one would be?

Community Iftar – Wednesday 26th March.

A shared meal to break the fast organised by Integrate Todmorden. As usual, really tasty food, wonderful company, but also this time, a fascinating glimpse into the history of Todmorden’s South Asian community. This was an Iftar to remember!

Town Hall Voices

The much-loved Todmorden Hippodrome writing competition reworked especially for the Town Hall's anniversary presented in a specially created studio within the ballroom.

And what a diverse, imaginative and brilliant range of stories we saw - all encompassing totally different aspects of the heritage of our town hall. How the judges could choose between the scripts is a mystery - they were all fab!

Tod Life - A Promenade Play - Sat 29th & Sun 30th March

Fascinating snippets of life in the Town Hall played in the actual rooms in which they took place. With a cast of local residents, this play took a humorous glimpse into history and a quick peek into life behind the scenes of our iconic building. Audiences loved it, and even random people just passing by the Town Hall were treated to an encounter with our living statue of John Fielden.

Projection Mapped Film - Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March

Wow!! What a treat for our town! “Jaw droppingly brilliant” said one audience member, and we have to agree.

We feel very sorry for anyone who missed this spectacular performance in person, but you can catch up with the recording, and even find out the details that weren’t obvious at first glance.

Community Banquet – 3rd April

On the actual anniversary of the Town Hall opening we reflected the historic banquet that took place in 1875. A massive undertaking to feed 150 people, we managed to make this a huge success. Beautiful, heart-warming and tasty!

Saturday 5th April: A Festival of Music-Making

A full day of different music and workshops featuring Todmorden Community Brass Band, Music 4 the Many Nasheeds Choir, Todmorden Cantata, Todmorden Choral Society and Three Valley Gospel Choir - how can we summarise this triumph? We can’t - you’ll have to follow the link :)

Sunday 6th April - free tour

Led by the Friends of Todmorden Town Hall volunteer tour guides this was the last chance to see the Town Hall before renovations started.

And perhaps this is our chance to thank ALL our volunteers - we think nearly 500 people took part in some way in the events.
